Cape Girardeau Toe Drain

About the Project

This USACE project involved the removal of existing railroad tracks, excavation and removal of the existing toe drain system that was located under the railroad tracks, installation of a new toe drain system, and reconstruction of the railroad subgrade and tracks in a confined space in an around the clock operation in August 2016. Work was completed during the mandatory 72-hour railroad shutdown. The major aspects of the work included excavation, pipe demolition, pipe installation, manhole installation, and subgrade construction. A separate portion of the project took place in November 2016 and involved excavating around and exposing existing sheet piling, cutting the sheet piling off at design grade, and installing a flowable fill sheet pile cap that tied the sheet piling into the floodwall.
