This USACE project consisted of boring and jacking a 42 inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe within a steel liner and grouting between them; installation of precast inlet and cast-in-place concrete outlet structure with flapgates; outlet structure excavation, inlet and outlet channel excavation; placement of structural backfill, filter material and riprap; removal of existing culvert inlet and outlet structure; grouting existing culvert and environmental protection.
The levee protected a largely populated area from floodwaters which made excavating the levee impossible, so the existing pipe needed to be replaced through boring and jacking.
