Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery – Phase 3 Expansion

The project expanded the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, to provide an additional ten years of full-option burial capacity, developing approximately 45 acres of land. Gravesite and cemetery improvements included 19,500 pre-placed crypt full-casket gravesites, 1,000 oversize pre-placed crypt casket gravesites, 3,600 traditional in-ground cremains, and 10,200 columbarium niches.

The expansion also upgraded the Administration Building, renovated the Public Information Center, constructed a new Honor Guard Building and maintenance complex storage facilities, and upgraded the five existing Committal Shelters. Work included new roadways, rehabilitation of existing roads, a rear maintenance entrance, expanded parking and site access, and upgrades to site utilities and communications infrastructure. Enhanced physical security was provided across all facilities through new access control and intrusion detection systems supported by upgraded network infrastructure, along with signage, furnishings, irrigation systems, and drainage enhancements. Additional improvements included a new irrigation booster pump, restoration of the flagpole and rostrum area, GIS upgrades, and repairs to the existing columbarium.

Safety record: RKE spent 1,380 days constructing the project with zero recordable incidents.
