W.D. Mayo Lock & Dam 14 – Embankment & Cherokee Chute Repair

Le Flore County, Oklahoma · $4,637,335 Contract · Completed October 2025 · RKE as Prime Contractor
Project Overview

Scope & Delivery

The project consisted of the rehabilitation and armoring of approximately 5,680 linear feet of embankment through crest and landslide slope improvements. Work included the removal and stockpiling of existing bedding material along the embankment crest and landside slope, followed by the placement of approximately 40,891 tons of riprap and new bedding stone to enhance long-term stability and erosion protection. Existing bedding materials were reused where suitable.

In addition to the linear armoring work, the project included the demolition and reconstruction of five discrete 50-foot sections of the embankment. These sections were excavated to elevation 394 feet, with existing riprap and bedding removed and stockpiled for reuse. Reconstruction included approximately 11,558 cubic yards of fill to restore the embankment profile and integrity. The completed work resulted in a reinforced embankment system designed to improve resilience against erosion and hydraulic forces while extending the service life of the structure.
